Innovation and partnership steal the show at the CIWM Environmental Excellence Awards 2013

A wide range of companies across the industrial spectrum, as well as councils, public sector organisations and individuals, scooped prizes at the 2013 CIWM Awards for Environmental Excellence, which recognise and reward companies that have introduced successful measures to reduce their environmental impact through more sustainable waste and resource management. The winners were announced at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel yesterday, at an awards ceremony hosted by TV presenter Michaela Strachan.

The Innovative Practice (SME) Award, sponsored by Murphy, went to Carbon8 Aggregates for their recycling process that turns air pollution control residues (APCR) into lightweight, carbon-negative aggregate. The company has turned a laboratory-based technology into a commercial scale reality, providing a recycled material that has met the necessary regulatory requirements to be used in medium and dense aggregate blocks. In pioneering this innovative process, the company have also enabled energy from waste plants to achieve ‘zero waste to landfill’.
