Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, visited Carbon8 Systems on Saturday 18 April 2009 and heard how the company is offering an alternative to carbon capture and storage. Dr Paula Carey and Dr Colin Hills from Carbon8 Systems gave a brief presentation on Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT) and demonstrated how they use the technology to treat soil and waste so it can be re-used for aggregate, engineering fill or specialist construction materials.

Ed Milliband was accompanied by Paul Clark, MP for Gillingham & Rainham, and they also visited the laboratory and examined some of the materials manufactured by Carbon8. Ed Milliband said, “The work we saw is a real example for the rest of the country. What we need is everyone, our scientists, people at universities and engineers, all coming together to provide the know-how and expertise to help tackle climate change and create jobs in our economy.”
